Angela Sevilla started Finca Esmeralda with her husband in 2004 and managed it together until he passed away in 2012. Since then, she and her four children (2 boys and 2 girls) have managed all farm activities, keeping it a family business.

The farm is in La Fundadora, a small community near the capital city of the Jinotega region in Northern Nicaragua. The farm started with 2 hectares of land and has since grown to 5.3 hectares, producing 175 bags of coffee per year.

In 2019, she built a new water treatment plant to improve the sustainability of her processing operation. This is different than any system being used by other producers in her area, so Finca Esmeralda has become a “model farm” for many.

We found this coffee to have a syrupy body, with ccomplex fruit notes, sweetness, and a round clean finish.
